A quieter, more scenic approach from the west, crossing the wide Shira Plateau before joining the same summit route as Machame. The extra acclimatization day built into the standard 8-day itinerary gives Lemosho the highest summit success rates of any route we offer.
Register at Londorossi Gate before a scenic drive to the trailhead, then a gentle first walk through untouched rainforest, quieter than the busier eastern approaches.
Climb out of the forest and onto the vast Shira Plateau, a collapsed volcanic caldera with wide, open views in every direction and your first real look at Kibo’s summit.
An easier day crossing the plateau itself, giving your body time to acclimatise gradually while enjoying some of the most panoramic, least-crowded scenery on the mountain.
A ‘climb high, sleep low’ day: hike up to the Lava Tower (4,630 m) for lunch and thin-air acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp beneath the dramatic Barranco Wall.
The Barranco Wall scramble opens the day steep but straightforward and is one of the most memorable stretches on the mountain—before an easier crossing to Karanga Valley.
A shorter, steady climb across the alpine desert to Barafu Camp, your final camp before the summit attempt, awaits you. Rest, hydrate, and prepare gear for a very early start.
A midnight start and a steady climb by headtorch to Stella Point for sunrise, then on to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Afterwards, a long descent all the way down to Mweka Camp in the forest.
The final walk down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, with certificates awarded and a well-earned hot meal waiting at the bottom.
