7-Day Northern Circuit Safari

Your journey begins when you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where your private Safari Quest guide will be waiting to welcome you to Tanzania. After meeting your guide, you will leave the airport and travel toward Arusha, the starting point for your Northern Circuit adventure. The drive gives you your first glimpse of northern Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro from afar if the climate is good, local villages and farmland to the impressive landscapes surrounding Mount Meru.

On arrival in Arusha, you will check into your hotel and have time to relax after your flight. This first day is intentionally kept gentle so that you can rest and prepare for the safari rather than immediately beginning a long game drive. Later, your guide will give you a safari briefing and explain what you can expect during the coming days.

You will have dinner at your hotel and enjoy a comfortable night’s rest. Tomorrow morning, the real adventure begins.

After breakfast, you will meet your private safari guide and begin your journey toward Tarangire National Park. The drive takes you through the countryside before arriving at the park’s Main Gate.

Tarangire immediately feels different from Arusha. Towering baobabs rise above the savannah, while elephants are often one of the first major wildlife highlights visitors hope to see. The park is renowned for its elephant herds and its dramatic baobab scenery.

During your game drive, you may encounter elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, impalas, warthogs and many different bird species. Predators such as lions may also be encountered, especially in areas where large herbivore herds gather. Your guide will continually scan the landscape for movement and explain animal behaviors as you travel.

After a picnic lunch, the afternoon continues with more wildlife viewing. Tarangire’s combination of river, swamps, woodland and open grassland creates different habitats where different animals gather. Later, you will leave the park and travel toward your accommodation in Manyara/Mto wa Mbu or Karatu area.

After breakfast, you will head toward Lake Manyara National Park, a relatively compact park with an amazing variety of landscapes. You will enter through the Lake Manyara Main Gate and begin your game drive beneath the Great Rift Valley escarpment.

One of the first things you may notice is the change in vegetation. Instead of the open savannah of Tarangire, Manyara offers lush groundwater forests, woodland, wetlands and the alkaline lake itself. The park is famous for its elephants, large troops of baboons and blue monkeys, hippos and abundant birdlife.

Lake Manyara is particularly famous for its tree-climbing lions. Seeing one resting high in a tree is a memorable safari experience, although, as with all wildlife sightings, there is no guarantee that the lions will be climbing on the day you visit. The lake can also attract flamingos and many other waterbirds depending on seasonal conditions.

You will enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing your afternoon exploration. Later, you will leave the park and travel toward the Ngorongoro/Serengeti direction. Depending on your accommodation arrangement, you can overnight in the Karatu area before continuing to Serengeti the following morning.

After breakfast, your journey continues toward the legendary Serengeti. You will travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where the landscape gradually changes from highland scenery to open plains.

Your guide will explain the importance of the Ngorongoro ecosystem and the wildlife corridors that connect different protected areas. The area supports elephants, buffaloes, giraffes and many other species that move between habitats.

You will enter Serengeti National Park, from here the scenery opens into enormous grasslands stretching toward the horizon. This is the moment many guests feel that their African safari has truly arrived.

Your afternoon will be spent on a game drive toward your accommodation. You may encounter wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, antelope and, with luck, lions, cheetahs or other predators. The Serengeti’s huge scale means every turn can bring a new scene.

As the sun sets, you will arrive at your lodge or tented camp for dinner and relaxation.

Today is dedicated to one of the greatest safari experiences in Africa: a full day exploring the Serengeti. You will start early, when the temperature is cooler and many animals are active.

Your guide will take you through wildlife-rich areas based on current conditions and recent sightings. You may find lions resting after a night of activity, cheetahs scanning the plains for prey, or large herds of wildebeest and zebra moving across the grasslands.

The Serengeti is not only about the famous big cats. You may also see elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, hyenas, jackals, gazelles and many species of birds. The Great Migration is another major attraction, with the location of the herds changing throughout the year.

After lunch, you will continue exploring a different part of the ecosystem. Your guide will explain how predators and prey interact and how animals adapt to the changing seasons. As afternoon turns into evening, you will make your way back to camp while enjoying the beautiful African sunset. Dinner and another night in the Serengeti complete a day filled with wildlife encounters.

After breakfast, you will enjoy your final Serengeti game drive before beginning the journey toward Ngorongoro. Keep your camera ready because wildlife can appear even during the journey out of the park.

You will exit Serengeti toward the Ngorongoro highlands. The scenery gradually changes as the plains give way to elevated landscapes and cooler temperatures.

On arrival in the Ngorongoro area, you will check into your accommodation and have time to relax. If the weather and timing are suitable, you may enjoy spectacular views around the crater area.

Ngorongoro is much more than the famous crater itself. The wider conservation area contains forests, wetlands, grasslands, archaeological sites and important wildlife corridors.

After dinner, you will have an early night because tomorrow you will descend into the crater for your final major game drive.

Your final safari morning begins early with breakfast before descending into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. As your vehicle makes its way down toward the crater floor, you will see the spectacular volcanic walls surrounding you.

The crater provides an extraordinary concentration of wildlife within a relatively compact area. You may encounter lions, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas and numerous antelope species. There is also a chance of seeing the endangered black rhinoceros, one of the most special wildlife encounters in the area. The NCAA highlights the crater’s exceptionally high wildlife concentration and its Big Five.

You will spend several hours exploring the crater with your guide. A picnic lunch will give you time to pause and appreciate the scenery before continuing your final game drive.

Eventually, you will begin the ascent from the crater and leave this remarkable natural amphitheater behind. From Ngorongoro, you will drive back toward Arusha while enjoying your final views of the Tanzanian countryside.

Depending on your international flight schedule, you can either spend your final evening in Arusha or be transferred directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home.

As you say goodbye to your guide and Tanzania, you will leave with memories of elephant families in Tarangire, the forests and wildlife of Manyara, the endless Serengeti plains and the extraordinary concentration of wildlife in Ngorongoro.
