Three parks, three completely different moods
3 Day Tanzania Safari: Tarangire, Lake Manyara & Ngorongoro

OVERVIEW

The itinerary we point most first-timers toward when they have three days and want variety rather than repetition is the baobab plains, Rift Valley forest, and a volcanic crater, each with its own feel.

  • Baobabs and elephant herds in Tarangire
  • Groundwater forest and flamingos at Lake Manyara
  • A full day finishing inside the Ngorongoro Crater
  • Efficient routing with no wasted driving time

day by day

Full itinerary

A mid-morning departure gets you into Tarangire in time for lunch and a full afternoon game drive. It’s one of the better parks in Tanzania for elephant behavior, specifically calves, matriarchs, and the whole social structure of a herd, because the river keeps them close by right through the dry months.

Manyara is small enough to cover properly in a morning, and that’s exactly the point—dense groundwater forest gives way to open grassland and then a shallow, mineral-rich lake that’s often edged pink with flamingos. Keep an eye on the acacia branches; this is one of the few parks where lions occasionally climb trees.

A predawn departure puts you on the crater floor as the mist is still lifting, which is when the wildlife is easiest to find. After a few unhurried hours down there, the drive climbs back out for your transfer to Arusha or onward to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
