4 Day Tanzania Safari: Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater

Elephant country, open plains and a crater finale
4 Day Tanzania Safari: Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater

OVERVIEW

Four days is enough time to actually feel the Serengeti rather than just pass through it, and this route still leaves room for a proper crater morning at the end. Our most-booked short safari, for good reason.

  • Same-day arrival game drive in Tarangire
  • A full day in the Serengeti’s central plains
  • Crater-floor safari to close out the trip
  • Private vehicle and guide from start to finish

Full itinerary

Straight off the plane and into the bush, your first afternoon is spent tracking elephant herds through Tarangire’s baobab-studded plains, a gentle but rewarding introduction before the longer drives ahead.

The road climbs through the Ngorongoro highlands before dropping into the Serengeti, and the moment the plains open up, the game drive effectively begins. You’ll base yourself in the Seronera area, the most reliable part of the park for predator sightings year-round.

A whole day with nowhere else to be, following tracks toward the rivers and kopjes where lion prides rest up during the heat, watching the wildebeest herds move with no particular urgency, and letting your guide follow whatever’s interesting rather than a fixed loop.

One last early start to descend into Ngorongoro for a morning of game viewing before the drive back to Arusha, with a transfer option straight to Kilimanjaro International Airport if you’re flying out the same day.
